Five offline RPGs worth your storage space
Offline RPGs are a strange category. Most big-name mobile RPGs are built around daily logins and online events, which makes finding a genuine single-player adventure harder than it should be. But they exist, and they're worth hunting for.
The first thing I look for is whether the save data lives on your device. If your progress is tied to a server, a game can vanish overnight. The titles I keep installed are the ones that let me carry a whole campaign in my pocket.
Combat matters too. A good offline RPG gives you a system with real decisions rather than an auto-battle button. Emberwatch Saga, which I reviewed recently, is a great example of turn-based fights that actually make you think.
My practical tip: check the download size against your free space before a trip, and play an hour at home first. Some of these games have surprisingly long opening sections. Better to hit that wall on wi-fi than at 30,000 feet.
None of these are new, flashy releases, and that's the point. Offline RPGs age well because they aren't chasing a live calendar.
